Phaethon was a demigod. He was the son of Helios and Klymene. Phaethon's sisters were the Heliades. The story behind Phaethon is that , Helios wanted to have a son so he got Phaethon. Phaethon was granted his every wish by Helios. Phaethon wanted to fly his fathers Chariot so Hilos said yes and gave him the reigns. Phathon thought he was doing good until he steered of course, ran into one of the great winds and lost control of the immortal steeds pulling the chariot. Since the chariot was made up of the sun it was so hot it would be able to destroy the mortals on earth and every lake and body of water. Zues had to shoot a lightning bolt and destroy the chariots the chariot would not destroy the mortals. Phaethon fell out of the chariot and fell into a river never to be seen again. Helios was very sad about his sons death and he put Phaethon up in the sky as a star in a consellation. |
